CASE 001-009, Letters from Serial Killers
CASE 001-009 is a typographic-based book that contains letters from notorious serial killers, some not even identified to this day. Inspired by the aesthetic of case files seen in crime cases, this book is made with various types of coloured and textured paper to represent the different types of forms available in police departments.
Area of focus
To design a book based on the chosen theme of crime and serial killers, using only text—no imagery. The challenge was to rely on typography alone, using just two fonts and four sizes, to convey the tone and message of the content in a clear and impactful way.
Solution
Designed CASE 001–009, a typographic book featuring letters from known and unknown serial killers. Inspired by the look of police case files, the book uses a mix of coloured, textured papers and scanned torn papers to reflect the variety of official documents and the “evidence” that comes with it. With strict limits on typefaces and sizing, the design focuses on layout, spacing, and paper choice to build atmosphere and tension throughout the book.
